This custom extra wide one bay oak framed garage we designed with a whopping 4.65m wide entrance. We delivered this building to the clients site after dry fitting it in our yard in East Sussex as we do with all buildings which always allows us to check that the building is all going to fit together smoothly when it is erected on site.
This lovely little open fronted garage was delivered in kit form for a self-assembly job and we think the clients did a Stirling job. The client decided to sit the 175mm wide upgraded posts and soleplate wide on their own brickwork and painted the softwood weatherboard black which they set back behind parts of the frame. Aesthetically this looks great and helps show off the contrast of the beautiful oak frame however by setting this weatherboard back behind the frame instead of on top of it water ingress could be a potential issue in the future. We therefore advised to stop this it would be a good idea to utilise some lead flashing in horizontal areas of this design where the weatherboard edge meets the edge of the frame.
For those that are thinking of doing a self-assembly project and want to utilise this type of design by sitting the weatherboard behind the frame it is also a good idea to match the edges of the vertical edges of weatherboard and frame internally with mastic this keeps the design neat as well as stopping water ingress in times of extreme weather conditions and driving rain.
This bespoke one bay garage has a gable shape roof running side by side on top of a full span shaped garage frame. This allows the same height front to back and maximises the space within the garage and is also a better option if you’re thinking of converting your garage for other uses later on. Internally the client has done the internal studwork differently to our standard design which we would normally utilise, however this is one of the many joys of doing your personalising your own assembly project further and buying the building in kit form.
